Applicant type

Start with the applicant and intended use.

The applicant category and intended portal influence the documents, verification route and certificate details. Confirming these first helps avoid unnecessary rework.

Individual DSC

The certificate carries your name only. Used when you are personally the signatory — your own returns, your own filings, your own signature on a document.

Organisation DSC

Foreign national

For eligible overseas applicants who need to sign on Indian portals. Identity and address verification differ, and usually take longer — plan for that.

Certificate class

Confirm the certificate requirement before you apply.

Portal and workflow requirements can differ. We help you confirm whether the use case calls for signing, signing with encryption, organisation details or another specific certificate configuration before the application begins.

Signing requirement

For workflows where a portal or document process requires an authenticated digital signature.

Signing and encryption

Some tendering and procurement workflows may require encryption in addition to signing. Confirm the portal requirement before applying.

Validity options

Available validity choices depend on the certificate and issuing CA. We help you compare the current options before you proceed.

Common use cases

Digital signing across professional and government portals.

A certificate may be used across multiple supported portals depending on the applicant and requirement. Confirm the intended use before applying because portal requirements can change.

Income tax

Returns, audit reports and TDS filings.

GST

Registration, returns and refund applications.

MCA / ROC

Company filings, DIN and annual returns.

e-Tender

Government and PSU bidding portals.

DGFT

Import and export licence applications.

ICEGATE

Customs filings and shipping documents.

EPFO / ESIC

Employer filings and signatory registration.

Contracts

Agreements, invoices and internal approvals.

Renewal

Plan your renewal before the current certificate expires.

Renewal involves fresh certificate issuance and verification. Starting in advance helps reduce disruption to filing, tendering or signing work.

Check the expiry date

Open the token utility or your last certificate email. If it is inside a month, start now.

Confirm what changed

New designation, new entity, different portal? The certificate may need to be different from your last one.

Complete verification again

KYC is not carried over. Expect OTP, document checks and a short video recording.

Download to your token

Usually the same token you already have, provided it has space and is not locked.

Verification

Applicant verification is completed directly.

Certifying Authorities verify the applicant directly. Safe4Sign can guide the process, but identity and verification steps must be completed by the applicant as required by the issuing CA.

Mobile and email OTP

Sent to the number and address on the application. Use ones you actually have access to — changing them later means starting over.

Identity and address proof

Document requirements depend on the applicant category and issuing CA. Organisation applications may also require entity and authorisation documents.

Video verification

Where required by the issuing CA, the applicant completes video verification by following the instructions shown during the application process.

A token ready to receive it

Compatible, unlocked and with space free. If you are unsure, send us the model before the certificate is approved.

Keep your token and PIN under your control. Do not share signing credentials. If you suspect loss, compromise or unauthorised use, contact the issuing CA or appropriate support channel promptly.
Questions

Common DSC questions.

Is Safe4Sign a Certifying Authority?

No. Only licensed Certifying Authorities can issue Digital Signature Certificates in India. We prepare and route your application, help you through verification, and support the download. The CA does the verifying and the issuing.

Can I use one certificate on more than one portal?

Portal acceptance and certificate requirements can vary. Tell us the portals and intended use, and we will help you check the current requirement before you apply.

What happens if I lose the token or forget the password?

Recovery depends on the token model and its security policy. Avoid repeated password guesses. If the token is inaccessible, contact support before proceeding; replacement or re-issuance may be required.

I have changed jobs. Can I keep my organisation certificate?

If your organisation, role or authorisation has changed, confirm whether the existing certificate should be revoked or replaced before continuing to use it.

Do you handle applications outside Gurugram?

Yes. Verification is done remotely by the Certifying Authority, so location is not a constraint. We work with clients across India, and tokens are couriered where needed.
